I hate to start the year off in disagreement, but....
Catching up on the podcasts of Loaded I heard Natali del Conte making fun of the search terms used by Yahoo and defending those of Google. I hardly think you can judge all internet users by those who search for subjects in Yahoo/Google/any other search engine. What about people that learn about subjects from Wikipedia? or news sources? Let's not forget that some people can actually enter the URL they want-or already have it marked as a favorite.
Search listings show us the habits of people who don't know how to do these things.
By the way, I doubt that all the Yahoo searchers wanted photos of Britney-or that all the Google searchers wanted serious policy analysis regarding Palin. Most of the celebrity news/reality show culture seems based on laughing at people's misfortune.
See her take on 2008 search for yourself:

Rev3-why?????
Guess why I made the effort to try out Rev3?
Martin Sargent
Guess why I tried more of the shows there?
Sarah Lane
I'm a girl. I'm a Southerner. (Gator!!) I don't drink (ok I know I'm alone on that one) I like to read.
Why do I keep getting ignored? The world is not a G4 focus group. I know that the economy is in bad shape. But letting go of your assets in trying times makes about as much sense as wasting money just because times are good.
Both are signs of poor leadership.
Or just a lack of leadership.

Morgan Reviews Lockergnome's keyboard
On today's Webb Alert Morgan shows several of the most expensive keyboards out there. Among her mentions is one that lets you program LED shortcuts...hmmm...sounds familiar. I don't think Morgan realized that Chris did a podcast on that one. Mostly she showed the artsy handpainted ones. I agree that thousands are too much spend (at least for me). But I think there's a huge difference between a keyboard that matches your wallpaper and a keyboard with programming options.

Tech TV vs Photoshop TV
I've got a bit of a Photoshop TV habit. I'm obsessively working my way through all the past episodes. Tonight I noticed that there were some striking similarities between that gang and the old TechTV gang. Scott Kelby is Leo. He just is. I would love for someone to get them on a video podcast together just so I could see what happens. Dave Cross is both Patrick -with kilts replaced by Canadian shirts/jerseys-and Adam Sessler. Kinda like the Leo-Scott thing, I can't explain how Adam and Dave are the same guy. They just are. The jokes, the mannerisms. Matt Koslowski...I haven't decided, yet. Sometimes I could swear he's Marty with the self-deprecating humor. Other times he's the young Mr. Cool and I think Matt is just a Diggnation waiting to happen. After all, they had a drinking game episode, so it's just a matter of time.

Oooh...Oosah
I took a Dreamweaver class. So, hopefully I'll be able to turn this blog into a website soon. Of course I was one of the only students without a flash drive to store the files from class. So I just bought one online. But, Chris "the Ninja" Pirillo just shared a website that may mean I'll never have to buy another one. Oosah gives away 1 TB of space for free. I don't know why, but I trust Chris. So, I'm not asking questions.
Thanks Chris! Thanks Oosah!

All the news that's fit to podcast
Just when I thought that I was never going to get any decent news-outside of the BBC, FT, and French podcasts...along comes East Meets West! Thank goodness that I'm not the only one getting emotional over the conflict between Georgia and Russia. Finally somebody is able to talk about the sad, sick popularity contest/reality show that this election has become and use the word so often ignored ---Policies. I feel a little less cynical this evening. Thanks Tom. Thanks Roger C.

R3g vs Digg-A house divided
What's a girl to do on a Friday night?? Aside from watching Dr. Who and Atlantis, naturally...I watched a bunch of podcasts. Including the R3G dodgeball game against Digg. Pitting one group of talented tech talent against their own for fun, sport and a sense of artificial rivalry....Isn't this the kind of crap that Steve Jobs was doing to Apple right before they fired him? Not that I'm superstitious or anything. In fact I'm fine with the fact that the team wearing red-my favorite color-headbands lost terribly....As the Doctor always says right before the world is about to end, "Oh, dear!"

Star Trek vs Digital Divide
When I saw the July 21st Webb Alert clips of Jeff Han demonstrating multi-touch technology, I thought of a Star Trek Voyager episode where the captain has to remember how to use a computer that requires a keyboard. Of course, those politically correct Federation officers were a lot kinder about 20th century technological failings than Jeff. Han cringes at the idea of people being introduced to technology with $100 laptops. I cringe at the fact that there are people for whom even the $100 laptop would be a ridiculous luxury. ...

Racism, Sexism, and uninstalling Mahalo
The search for a new Mahalo host has shown me a side of Jason Calacanis that I can't live with. The young women that he's picked to audition-and those he gives an occasional break make up a group that is far from diverse. His comment about an audition where many people chose not to share their views was that they didn't seem as though English was their first language. I'm not following him on Twitter. I'm not using Mahalo's toolbar. I'm grateful that Veronica was able to leave.

Mahalo Daily Hostesses All One Flavor
I'm a fan of Mahalo, and Mahalo Daily, and....so I'm a little disturbed at the lack of diversity in their choice of contestants to feature on the Vlog Idol podcasts-not to mention the vanilla flavor of their soon-to-be-final choices. I wonder if they think their fans are similarly mainstream????

Dvorak and Rupley Love Office Space
As if I needed another reason to love the Cranky Geeks!...Dvorak and Rupley apparently both love Office Space.
In other news, I find it sad that:
1. 1 in 4 geeks (Veronica Belmont) cared about whether the CIA would be spying on everyone by using Google
2. 1 in 4 geeks (John C. Dvorak) cared what the international community felt about it.
3. 0 in 4 geeks had enough faith in the intelligence to believe the could get around Google security if they really needed to, anyway.

Of TWIT and Twitter
On the March 31st podcast of TWIT, Leo basically laughed at the inevitability of newspapers ceasing to exist in written form. I humbly beg to differ. Movies weren't killed by tv-they changed. Books weren't killed by magazines-they changed. I think that future papers will be different-and I hope network news will. But, I dread the idea of reading everything on my Amazon wish list from a digital screen....of course I wear glasses.
God Bless Twitter-and Four20. By following, my follower I found out about the 404 podcast-and that Marty was on the latest episode!

Louderback Gives Marty Props!
Martin told Gator that he never sees cool stuff come up when he Googled his name. Hopefully, he read the compliment he got from Louderback about his shows. I was reading the MediaBistro Circus blog for their May circus event and read the following:
What's your favorite Revision3 show?
I love all my children equally. But Web Drifter and 'Lil Internet Superstar make me laugh.

Late Lunch for Louderback
Jim Louderback is giving a free webcast on the state of online video. Of course, it's at 2:00 on a Wednesday....so I'll be bringing my lunch that day (and my laptop). I don't have a longer post because I spent my time watching another-not free-webcast on how to improve this blog. All kudos go to MediaBistro.com. All faults are my own...

Twice the Marty!
First the Gazette-then an episode of Internet Superstar-thanks Marty!
A great episode with an interview of Natali Del Conti. I love to watch Loaded and actually remembered her from Cranky Geeks. I agree with Marty and Gator that it would be cool if she was working with Rev3.
P.S.--Why is Wikipedia evil? First they delete East meets West--now Natali? Who are these editors and why does this feel personal? If they keep up the subjective deletions, people will stop using them as a reliable information source and they'll get replaced....maybe that will be a good thing.

CNet-What Happened?
On the last episode of the Cranky Geeks, it was sad to see Roger and Annaliza as guests from different companies than Chief Crank John. Now I'm just glad they had the option--Media Bistro says that CNET let go of 120 staffers..:(
